I am Justin Hayes, and I am a resident of Flamborough, Ontario, Canada, and I am a computer consultant. Let me give you a little look at the source of my knowledge and experience.
Ever since a young age, I have been fascinated by technology, and computers and the Internet specifically. I have spent the last few years learning more and more about computers, and webdesign. It all started when I started grade six and was finally introduced to a proper computer class as a benefit of being in an academically gifted class. We were taught a little bit about computers and how they work, and some basic web design. Ever since then, I have been expanding my knowledge, and have taken several computer and web design related courses in school and outside of school. I have also worked in a computer store building and repairing computers for customers, as well as building several of my own. Earlier this year, I started an internship at a local business specializing in real-estate in the IT department. I am now employed there part-time on an as-needed basis mostly to take care of their server assets, including hardware and software maintenance, and new deployments. This company handles many hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of transactions daily, so it is absolutely imperative that the systems remain running.
Formal courses are not the only source of my knowledge. I have spent a large amount of time self-learning about various operating systems, including Windows 2000/XP/Vista, and various distributions of Linux and BSD, as well as dozens of useful programs. I personally use Ubuntu Linux on my desktop, laptop, and server, and do most of my work on it, and have done so for a number of years now. I administer my own servers, rather than rely on a hosting company. I am very experienced with LAMP, which is the combination of Linux, Apache HTTP Server, MySQL databases, and PHP as a webserver platform. Everything you see here is powered by Drupal. Drupal, like many programs and tools I use is open-source, and free. Part of my mission, besides giving my customers the best service possible is promoting the benefits of open-source software. Look for another page dedicated to OSS sometime in the near future.
That brings us to now, and I have decided to make a real business of my own out of my computing-related knowledge and experience. I have always been somewhat of an entrepreneur, so it seems like the perfect idea for me.
