Inkscape

Inkscape is a free, open-source vector image drawing program similar to Adobe Illustrator. It uses the ISO standard Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) file format.

GIMP

GIMP is also free, and open-source. It is a handy replacement for Adobe Photoshop that is just as powerful, if a little harder to use.

Gedit

Gedit is the official text editor of the GNOME display environment that comes standard in Ubuntu. It's a no-frills graphical text editor with few distinguishing features, but it gets the job done.
